چکیده
Thus dephosphorylation will increase during starvation as the ratio of dephosphorylating/phosphorylating activity increases by 4.5. Acute glucose loading alters this ratio to 1.5 times the fed value. Chicken liver hexokinases differ from rodent liver hexokinases in several important respects. No isoenzyme inhibited by high glucose concentrations is present in avian liver (Ureta et al., 1972), and we observed no inhibition of activity over a wide range of glucose concentrations. Inhibition of chicken liver hexokinases by N-acetylglucosamine had a K,,,/K, ratio of 0.22. This value is intermediate between tlle 0.02 of rat hexokinase and the 15 of rat glucokinase (Viiiuela et al., 1963). Thus there is no evidence for the presence of chicken glucokinase under normal nutritional conditions or under starvation plus acute glucose loading. The rate of glucose uptake and efflux from chicken liver is therefore likely to be regulated by substrate cycling involving glucose 6-phosphatase and hexokinase.

A morphometric and biochemical investigation of the vesiculation of kidney microvilli.
The vesiculation of kidney proximal tubule microvilli has been examined in tissue slices, isolated brush borders and isolated microvilli. Vesiculation could be induced in tissue slices by 2,4-dinitrophenol and anoxia. Cycloheximide and fluoride had no effect. In brush borders and microvilli, the vesiculation was found to be essentially temperature-dependent. Whilst an osmotic swelling could be ...
متن کاملDipeptidyl peptidase IV, a kidney microvillus serine proteinase: evidence for its large subunit molecular weight and endopeptidase activity.
Dipeptidyl peptidase IV was first described by Hopsu-Havu & Glenner (1966) and purified from kidney by Hopsu-Havu et al. (1968). Enzymes of this class (for a review, see McDonald et al., 1971) hydroylse dipeptides from the N-terminus of susceptible substrates. Barth et al. (1974) demonstrated that dipeptidyl peptidase IV exhibits two specificities, involving substrates of the types X-Pro-Y and ...
متن کاملpH gradient-stimulated transport of urate and p-aminohippurate in dog renal microvillus membrane vesicles.
The transport mechanism of urate and p-aminohippurate (PAH) was evaluated in microvillus membrane vesicles isolated from the renal cortex of the mongrel dog. Imposition of a transmembrane pH gradient (pHo less than pH1) markedly accelerated the uptake of [14C]urate and [3H]PAH and caused the transient accumulation ("overshoot") of each anion above its final level of uptake. The transport of ura...
متن کاملA novel marker glycoprotein for the microvillus membrane of surface colonocytes of rat large intestine and its presence in small-intestinal crypt cells
Murine mAbs were produced against purified microvillus membranes of rat colonocytes in order to establish a marker protein for this membrane. The majority of antibodies binding to the colonic microvillus membrane recognized a single protein with a mean apparent Mr of 120 kD in both proximal and distal colon samples. The antigen is membrane bound as probed by phase-partitioning studies using Tri...
متن کاملThe CD34-Related Molecule Podocalyxin Is a Potent Inducer of Microvillus Formation
BACKGROUND Podocalyxin is a CD34-related transmembrane protein involved in hematopoietic cell homing, kidney morphogenesis, breast cancer progression, and epithelial cell polarization. Although this sialomucin has been shown to block cell adhesion, the mechanisms involved remain enigmatic. It has, however, been postulated that the adaptor proteins NHERF-1 and 2 could regulate apical targeting o...
